GeoKids Early Childhood Development Center

At GeoKids, we're committed to the needs of children—caring for them, stimulating them, and encouraging them as they discover their world.

OVERVIEW

GeoKids Early Childhood Development Center is a nationally-recognized, NAEYC-accredited cooperative childcare center and preschool for children ages 3 months to 5 ½ years. GeoKids is open 7:30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, year round.

HISTORY

GeoKids was founded in 1987 by a group of parents who worked at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) campus. Since then, GeoKids has become one of the most celebrated early childhood programs in the region, offering a wonderfully supportive, play-based learning environment for local families and educators.

VISION

We believe children are capable, caring, creative individuals, and teach a philosophy that emphasizes respect for the process of childhood. Our hope is that everyone who comes in contact with GeoKids shares a common understanding of the program and appreciates its positive impact on early childhood development. We also aim to ensure that all voices of children, parents and staff are heard and respected as participants in the GeoKids community.

APPROACH

All aspects of GeoKids are greatly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to childcare and early childhood education. We view children as active participants in the process of learning cognitive, language, social, and creative skills. We support this learning in an environment that maximizes freedom and encourages exploration while providing safe limits and consistent nurturing.

We believe we can best prepare children for success in school and life by...

Supporting their natural predisposition to learn

EDUCATORS

The GeoKids educators are a group of reflective, caring, imaginative, lifelong learners committed to offering children the best environment possible. They are passionate, dedicated individuals who are active in a wide range of professional development activities and personal interests. Many of our educators have a bachelor’s degree in child development or a related field, and all are committed to ongoing professional development. In addition, all GeoKids educators are certified in CPR/first aid.

COMMUNITY

GeoKids is a parent cooperative, where parents are a valued and important presence. Parents spend time in the classroom every week and participate in community events. We believe active parent involvement is essential in supporting young children and helping parents to grow alongside their children. GeoKids fosters an environment where all caregivers can learn from and mentor each other, always striving to help children achieve their full potential.
